Twelve Mainstream Politicians (1 0f 12) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I have written several articles on postings related to politicians. A list of links have been provided at bottom of this article for your convenience. This article will, however address different aspects on these politicians.

This project will cover twelve mainstream politicians, 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats. Wikipedia is the primary source for these articles. While not every statement has been cross checked, a large number of the more important facts have been verified with other sites. The first installation will be a discussion of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). While she is a fairly new Democratic member of the House of Representatives, she has become a polarizing member of Congress. She was born in October 13, 1989, the daughter of Blanca Ocasio-Cortez and Sergio Ocasio. Her father was born in the Bronx and is an architect, her mother was born in Puerto Rico. She graduated from Yorktown High School in 2007. During her four years at Boston University, she served as an intern for U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, in his section on foreign affairs and immigration issues. She graduated with a BA in 2011, majoring in International Relations and Economics. Her career beginnings were humble, she began as a bartender and waitress. She later worked for a nonprofit National Hispanic Institute. During the 2016 primary, AOC worked for Bernie Sander’s Presidential Campaign. In 2018 she ran for US House of Representatives in New York District 14. Her campaign utilized grassroots mobilization and she refused all corporate donations. She was endorsed by progressive and civil rights organizations. On June 26, 2018 she received 57.13% of the vote to 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley’s 42.5%. It was considered to be one of the biggest Democratic upsets in over a decade. In the general election she faced Republican nominee Anthony Pappas. Democrats outnumber Republicans by almost 6 to 1 in District 14. So she easily won the election with 78% of the vote to Pappas’ 14%.

AOC is known for her large social media presence. In 2019 2 lawsuits were filed against her for blocking 2 individuals on Twitter. It was ruled a violation of the first Amendment. AOC settled and issued a statement apologizing for the Twitter blocks. She first participated in a climate change protest held outside the office of than House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Through 2019 she has continued to receive massive media coverage and is considered as one of the faces of the Democratic Party. In February 7, 2019 AOC submitted her 1st piece of legislation, the Green New Deal. Over 10 years, she wants to phase out fossil fuel use and overhaul the nation’s infrastructure. Their goal is net-zero greenhouse emissions.

AOC is a member of the Democratic Socialist of America and embraces Socialism. She supports progressive policies such as single-payer Medicare for All, tuition-free public college and trade school, a federal job guarantee, equal rights for LGBTQ. A cancellation of all outstanding student debt, guaranteed family leave, abolishing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ending the privatization of prisons, enacting gun-control policies and a energy policy relying on 100% renewable energy sources. She is also open to using Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) as an economic pathway. She sites MMT as justification for higher deficit spending. She is for the abolition of ICE. She advocates solidarity with Puerto Rico.

AOC has recently taken to employing unfair campaigning techniques utilizing popular left groups like TiKTok and K-pop on Twitter for Twitter Bombing and Facebook. BLM and Antitha has also become involved in anti-campaign practices, like blocking entrance to rallies and utilizing intimidation techniques to keep pro-Trumpers from attending these rallies. This needs to stop. Our country has always been known for its fair election process. We have to restore this. No longer can the big bullies of the left, force their views and beliefs on the majority of the population simply because they are willing to use force, violence and unethical practices.
