I have written several articles on postings related to politicians. A list of links have been provided at bottom of this article for your convenience. This article will, however address different aspects on these politicians.
Charles Schumer born on November 23, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Jewish parents Selma and Abraham Schumer. His father ran exterminating business, and his mother was a homemaker. He graduated from James Madison High School with a 1600 SAT score. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree at Harvard College and continued on to receove a Law Degree at Harvard Law School. He passed the NY state bar in 1975. He married his wife Iris Weinshall in 1980. The couple has 2 children, both who have graduated from Harvard College. However, his career path lead to politics not law. He served in the New York Assembly for three terms from 1975 to 1981, sitting in the 181st, 182nd and 183rd New York State Legislatures. In 1980 he ran for the House seat in the 16th District. He served until 1999 eventually ending up in the 9th congressional district. Schumer introduced the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee he oversaw the House investigation of the Waco siege in 1995.
In 1998, Schumer ran for the Senate. He beat out Geraldine Ferraro for the Senate seat. Where he currently still sits. Since 2017 he has held the position of Senate Minority Leader. Schumer has been described as a publicity hound and always seems to manage to get in front of the camera. Schumer prides himself on visiting every one of New York’s 62 counties every year and has done so all 16 years he has served as Senator. He has the reputation for focusing on local issues that are important to New Yorkers, ranging from tourism, local taxes and job creation. He has worked hard to keep jobs in NY. In 2001 Schumer and McCain introduced legislation to help make it easier generic versions of drugs to be produced. In 2002 these two senators helped pass legislation to prevent frivolous lawsuits filed by brand-name drug manufacturers claiming generic drugs are infringing there patents.
In 2001 Schumer along with Hiliary Clinton encouraged the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to share information on terrorism with local and state police by removing legal barriers to such cooperation. Since 2016 Schumer has been involved in one way or the other in the Russia Collusion Investigation. Schumer has been for Net Neutrality since 2017. He serves on the Committee on Rules and Administration and the Select Committee on Intelligence. He is caucus memberships in Afterschool Caucuses and Congressional NextGen 9-1-1 Caucus. Schumer is pro-choice, he encourages farmers to consider the Dairy Margin Coverage program. Schumer voted No on the impeachment charges of President Bill Clinton in both houses of Congress. Schumer passed legislation that required uniform disclosure information on the back of credit card applications, notifying prospective cardholders of annual fees and interest rates. He has been a champion of college tuition tax credits. Schumer is pro-death penalty. In 2014 Schumer backed the Paycheck Fairness Act, which insured equal pay regardless of gender. In 2015 Schumer supported the Charles Schumer-Rob Portman Senate bill which plans to tax the $2.2 trillion muli-national corporations in tax-haven subsidiaries.
Schumer was a supporter of the Iraq War Resolution, and pro-Israel. He along with Lindsey Graham have been critical of the trade imbalance between the US and China and its alleged cause of Chinese currency manipulation. (It occurs when a government or central bank buys or sells foreign currency in exchange for its own domestic currency, generally with the intention of influencing the exchange rate and trade policy.) Schumer has been critical of President Trump on not being tough enough on China, he also believes he is too easy on President Putin. In Afghanistan Schumer wants a scaling back of soldiers and an increased reliance on unmanned drone attacks. Schumer was against the nuclear deal with Iran proposed by President Obama. In 2018 Schumer warned President Trump not to let the Russian government question diplomats and other officials. He also was involved in the introduction of the Background Check Expansion Act( it required background checks for the sale or transfer of all firearms including unlicensed sellers).
In 2009 Schumer supported President Obama’s health reform legislation and voted for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and he voted for the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act (one man and one woman). Schumer is also against higher taxes, because he believes they depress the economy.
Why is Schumer against President Trump? There is not any definitive information on this matter. So I am going to try and address this subject as succinctly as I can. The following discussion is based on my feelings on the matter. Schumer is a career politician, and he considers President Trump to be an interloper. He also believes that he is too immature and outspoken to be an effective leader. He does not respect career politicians. He is constantly getting involved in arguments with politicians on Twitter. He believes in states rights and less federal government. He is not a liberal or socialist. He believes in compromise and is willing to work with his enemies as long as it furthers his agenda. Trade deals with China are OK as long as they benefit the US. He would rather negotiate than go straight into war. He believes in a balanced response, for foreign affairs. Schumer thought there should be more Federal control with the Covid Pandemic. Right or wrong it seems that Schumer is against everything Trump is for. If Trump’s response is strong, it is too strong, if it is light it is not strong enough. I believe the biggest problem with these two individuals is that they are both alpha males. Also Schumer is very egotistical and can’t stand being criticized. President trump has been critical of him since he has entered office. It is quite apparent that things could have been handled better. If President Trump was less critical of Schumer maybe they could have worked together. After looking at his career, it is evident that he is not a far left congressman. He has in fact a lot in common with President Trump. But, because of all the negative rhetoric between them and Pelosi pushing Schumer, and the press fanning the fire, there is little chance of any favorable resolutions being realized.
