What President Trump Has Done for the Black Population, Nothing But the Facts

I have written several articles on our President Trump. A list of the links have been provided at the bottom of this article for your convenience. This article will, however address different aspects on President Trump’s Presidency.

Note: these numbers are all pre-coronavirus. Numbers have shifted for the whole country since the shut down. But they are gradually improving. They would be much better if the Democratic leaders put the country before politics we would be doing much better.

President Trump has secured permanent funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the Negro College Fund. Trump has provided HBCUs a permanent-funding stream, worked with private companies to offer apprenticeships to their students and directed NASA to recruit HBCU enrollees seeking space-related careers. He approved Pell Grants year-round. Under his presidency we have experienced Low unemployment for Black males from 7.5% to 5.4% (creating 1,017,000 African American Jobs), unemployment for black women is currently 4.4%, Black teenagers unemployment has dropped from 26.2% to 15.8%. Poverty all time low for Blacks 20.8%. He signed the First Step Act (FSA) in December 2018, which seeks to incentivize prisoners to take part in evidence-based programs. By reforming the criminal justice system, he eliminated sentencing disparities caused by the Clinton Crime Bill, which disproportionately affected African Americans, he is giving thousands of unfairly sentenced black inmates a second chance at the American Dream. He launched 8,762 Opportunity Zones, which are attracting business and investment ($100 Billion) to low-income Census tracts, many populated by Black Americans. He reauthorized and funded Washington, D.C.’s school-voucher program, some 75% of whose beneficiaries are low-income black kids.

Trump upgraded Dr. Martin Luther King’s resting place from a national historic site to a national historic park, in January 2018, enhancing its treatment by the National Park Service. It was introduced in 2014 but the bill was never signed by Obama, Trump signed it. Trump posthumously pardoned black heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson, who was imprisoned after a racially charged sex scandal in 1912. Violent crime overall has fallen under President Trump, continuing a trend which started after a peak in 1991.
