What Makes A Leader Great

I have written several articles on postings related to politics. A list of links have been provided at bottom of this article for your convenience. This article will, however address different aspects on these political events.

There are a lot of things that makes a leader great, and I am sure I will miss some of these in this discussion. Setting a Mission Statement so to speak is a good place to start. Articulating what it is that you are trying to accomplish, setting goals attainable and some not so attainable. Being fair, though not necessarily unbiased. You have to take sides sometimes, if you don’t you will be judged as indecisive. Don’t say what people want to hear just to get your way. A lot of politicians promise the world when they are running for office, but have no intention of fulfilling those promises. Being skilled in the art of compromise. Working with both sides to attain your goals. However you need to be firm, and don’t make concessions that alter your ideals and morals. Some politicians and leaders think it is perfectly acceptable to jump back and forth from one camp to another. For example being pro-abortion and anti-abortion. This is usually not the case, but you get my meaning. People respect those that stick to there ideals as long as they are just.

The ability to adapt to the changing environment and showing the ability to utilize all available tools. Also show a willingness to take advice from the experts. A valuable skill is being able tell who is truly an expert an not a charlatan. We have way too many”experts” in this country. A truly great leader is willing to follow is own council. Listen to advice from all sides, but assimilate the data and make an informed decision. However, after all this if the decision proves to be the wrong one, own it. Don’t play the blame game. Give credit for work well done, paying compliments to hardworking employees helps to foster loyalty in the workforce or other areas.

This list sounds quite unattainable, and you would be right, nobody is perfect. But aspiring to all these items on this list and is what will set you apart from the rest, and will lead you to the path of greatness.
