As Peter concludes the last portion of his story, he thinks back at the terrible things he has done in his life. Even though he knows that killing the people he did was wrong and he will most likely burn in hell for their deaths, he has no regrets. What he does regret and he will have to live with for the rest of his life is what he did as an undercover agent. For almost two years, he worked undercover as a honey trap for the sex trafficking ring. He will always regret ruining the countless lives of young men and women in order to maintain his cover. While he knows that his actions were instrumental in bringing down the largest sex trafficking ring in Europe, was it worth all those innocent lives he destroyed. He hopes that with time they will forgive him. In an effort to make amends, he will spend over half of his fortune trying to restore their lives.
He tries to forget their faces as he walks down the lonely tree-studded sidewalk, it starts to drizzle. He looks up and sees a bus slowing down for a stop just a block ahead, so he starts running towards it. He reaches the bus just before the driver closes the door. As he is about to step up into it, a slip of a young woman darts in front of him and brushes against him as she propels herself ahead of him. When she reaches the landing inside, she turns around and smiles at him and apologizes profusely. He stammers, “that is OK”, as he also gets inside.
For the first time in his life he feels his heart beating a little faster and he feels warm all over. As it is still early in the morning and is dark out they are alone. So to keep each other company they sit back in the middle of the bus across from each other. This action just happens and it seems quite natural. As they sit down they start chatting as if they had known each other for years. Suddenly all of the hardships that he has suffered over the last 22 years starts to melt away as he chats with this lovely young lady. Their lively conversation continues as the bus pulls away and drives off down the darkened street.
