Project 63 was a CIA operation that involved bringing German scientists to the United States after World War II:
- PurposeTo prevent the Russians from enticing the scientists to go to Russia or the East Zone of Germany. The scientists were also considered to be qualified for employment by the military services.
- ProcessThe scientists were brought into the US under military jurisdiction and were not given diplomatic passports. The military kept an eye on the scientists to ensure they did not engage in anything detrimental to the US. If the military services could not use the scientists, they were placed in universities, private institutions, or industry.
- Relationship to Operation PaperclipProject 63 was an expanded version of Operation Paperclip, a secret US intelligence program that brought German scientists to the US after World War II.
