This is a blast from the past. But it is an appropriate subject considering that there is a significant possibility of there being a female Vice President. With the poor health condition of Biden, possible President. Sarah Palin was the second female Vice Presidential candidate in American history, chosen by Presidential hopeful John Mccain. Geraldine Ferraro was chosen by Walter Mondale. It can be argued that both times female VPs were chosen, the Presidential candidate took a major hit in popularity. However, both presidential candidates were running against juggernauts, and stood little chance of winning no matter who was chosen as there running mate. Today Biden is making a risky proposition on choosing a female running mate, and a black one besides. However, are country is a much different country than it was just a decade ago. 2020 may be the year it happens. But this article is about Sarah Palin, I just wanted to explain her place in history, before I discussed her more in depth.
Sarah Palin prior to being McCains’ running mate was the governor of Alaska. She was 2006 Alaska’s first female and also the youngest Governor in Alaskan history. During her first term she was quite successful. She was instrumental in eliminating much of the corruption surrounding Big Oil. Her priorities while in office were, resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development. In 2008, she was selected as Mondale’s VP running mate. They promptly lost to Obama. By the end of her third year her governorship started to unravel and she resigned in 2009. Where she than went on to being a commentator, author and reality Television personality.
What happened to Sarah Palin, you may ask? Maybe she rose too high too fast? There were a lot of issues, her family life was a mess, her 17 year old daughter became pregnant out of wedlock. Her husband had issues with his fishing business and there were issues of impropriety with her using her political influence to help him. She had some personality quirks. It has been theorized that she is a border line narcissist, with a need for admiration and tendency towards grandiosity, and the lack of empathy. While Presidential Hopeful was a plain vanilla individual, Palin was the polar opposite. She was constantly in the lime light. She flubbed interviews, spent other people’s money on her clothes, was caught in multiple lies. She basically unraveled before our eyes on national TV. It soon became evident that she did not have the mental stability to be A Vice President. If she would have had a little more maturity and a lot less baggage, she might have made a half way decent vice president. We will never know, as she fades into obscurity, one more blip has appeared in our Palin radar, in 2019 her spouse of 31 years filed for divorce.
