This has been the age old question should prostitution be legalized? Other questions have been asked as well, the most current one is making marijuana legal.

I will start with the oldest occupation, prostitution. This has been with us since the beginning of recorded history. Reproduction is a necessary component of maintaining the population of any species. Homo sapiens and orcas and dolphins are the only known species that engage in sex for pleasure. It has been shown that our dolphin friends enjoy an active sex life, engaging in sexual activities daily. In human societies sex has gone from being a necessary evil, only practiced for reproduction in a family unit, to the polar opposite of the Roman culture, where sex was free and easy. Even homosexuality was acceptable. But what hasn’t changed is that man and woman both enjoy sex. Also what hasn’t changed is that if man can’t get sex at home, he will find it in other places. It seems that religion has had a great effect on the role of sex in humanity. The more strict the religious beliefs are towards sex, the more pervasive extramarital sex is. Apparently religion is going to be with us forever, so we need an acceptable avenue for the release of the sexual energy of our population. In earlier societies life expectancy was relatively short. Individuals over 50 was relatively rare.In order to maintain our populations reproduction began at an earlier age. It was not uncommon for young women to reproduce as soon as they were sexually capable to do so. Young women were married off at ages of 12 and 13. As societies became more mature, and the health of our populations improved, so to did our life expectancy. It became more common for people to reach their 60s and 70s. Today people routinely live to their 80s. So with life expectancy increasing, early reproduction became less of an imperative. The age of consent went from 12 to 16. It is now more common for women to hold off starting families till their 20s and even 30s. Some women have children in their early 40s.

Where is prostitution legal? - Quora

Unfortunately what hasn’t disappeared is the taste for young females. While it is illegal in most countries, it is still quite common in the fringes of societies. It is also a major driving force behind white slavery. I have included a map of the world showing where prostitution is legal and illegal. In the regions where it is legal and regulated, it is also taxed. Where it is illegal, billions of taxpayer dollars are spent in trying to control it. Doesn’t it make more sense to legalize it, and regulate it and therefor use it as a revenue source, instead of a drain on taxpayer dollars? By legalizing it, we take it off the streets and move it into regulated facilities. Where weekly blood tests are done, the safety of the prostitute is ensured and pimps are eliminated. By regulating prostitution, we are making it easier to eliminate the incidence of child prostitution. It is obvious that prostitution is not going anywhere, so why not clean it up, regulate it and tax it.

The Alcohol Amendments - ppt download
Laws & Regulations About Alcohol Use, Distribution, & Promotion

When you make something illegal, you make it more attractive. Case in point the 18th amendment, or National Prohibition Act was ratified in January 1919. The production of illegal alcohol soon became a cottage industry. Where do you think the phrase “bathroom gin” came from? While we had crime syndicates in the U.S., they were mostly localized organizations. However, prohibition ushered in organized crime. The mafia spread throughout the northern states of the U.S. driven by the profits from the illegal sale of alcohol.

On December 5, 1933 the 21st amendment was passed and prohibition ended. However, organized crime was here to stay. They branched into gambling, prostitution and eventually illegal drug sales in the 1950s. Drug cartels make billions of dollars selling Narcotics around the world, Unfortunately, the U.S. is one of the largest markets. I have shown that if there is a demand for something, legal or not there will be somebody to supply it. It has been proven that marijuana is the most benign of the illegal drugs. It actually less dangerous to smoke than cigarettes or cigars. And it actually has some health benefits. It helps increase the appetite in cancer patients and helps to reduce the pain also present common in these patients. It has subsequently been legalized in several states in the U.S., starting with California for medical use. While Colorado and Washington legalized the recreational use of marijuana in November 2012.

I have included a current map on the legalization of marijuana in the U.S. Every state that has legalized the recreational use of marijuana has been able to capitalize on revenue bonanzas. Instead of spending large amounts of money to eradicate its sale and distribution, they can capitalize on its sale. They can use some of the revenue to monitor its sale. They can also use this revenue to fight the sale of the more deadly and still illegal cocaine. By legalizing marijuana, we are taking some of the profits from the cartels and also from organized crime.

I think it is time to stop the prudish behavior and federally legalize prostitution and the recreational use of marijuana. By legalizing the sale of marijuana we are weakening drug cartels and organized crime. We can also take the subsequent profit from taxation to further eradicate the illegal sale of narcotics.
